#35 Newsletter: 20 Celeb Beards to Behold, End of Summer Soundtrack (another beard!), the BEST Pork Tacos and the tastiest Caramel Dutch Apple Pie
Hi. How are you? I disappeared for a bit. A family member was in the hospital and my dog was ill. I hit pause on the newsletter. I’m trying to make it up to you with a jammed packed newsletter this week.
I carry a notebook with me and it’s the place I right down ideas or something I want to include in this newsletter. It’s so much easier to flip through a notebook instead of trying to remember what I planned to write about.
Spending a lot of time in a hospital is high up on the stress meter, so I tried to do what I could to ease some stress. I took a walk here and there. I tried to eat some comforting foods, watch a funny movie/TV show and get some sleep.
I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer. I’m normally a “all the way with fall” kinda gal, but I’m just not there yet.
This week there’s a little bit of everything… food, TV/movies, music and beards…
If you’re a new follower, thank you for signing up. If there’s something you enjoy reading here or you have a comment or suggestion, comment here or send me an email at paulandpaulinenewsletter@gmail.com (longest email address ever, ha.)
Thank you for sharing this newsletter and forwarding it to friends and family. Stay tuned for more content (free and paid content). I do not receive money for clicks on any products I recommend. I will always let you know if I receive a free product.
p.s. rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II (I’ll share more thoughts next week). I’m a huge Anglophile and I’ve read a lot of books on the royal family. If you’re keeping up with the coverage, I recommend watching BBC News. (my brother recommended this to me and he’s right).
If you’re new here, I’m a fan of the TV series, Longmire. My parents highly recommended the show to me several years ago and I didn’t watch back then (stubborn youngest child syndrome- ha!). I didn’t really consider myself a “western” fan. The show is so addictive. I love a police drama/mystery. I recently commented on A Martinez’s (one of the stars of Longmire) Instagram and he liked my comment. Day made!
If you haven’t watched the show— give it a try. It was on TV from 2012-2017. There’s talk about a reboot or a future movie. We’ll see.
p.s. I’ve read about comparisons between Yellowstone and Longmire. I don’t get it. Longmire is a much better show.
20 Beards to Behold
I may lose all of you here or maybe some of you will agree with me. I’ve never really been a fan of facial hair, with maybe a few exceptions here and there. I’m not sure if it’s all the 1970’s and 1980’s music I’ve been listening to or if there’s something in the water. I’m here for the beards. I’m officially a fan. I’m also a fan of very handsome men who would look good with or without a beard. Ha.
The other night I had a beard brainstorming session and here are my 20 favorite actors/musicians who can all rock a beard. Some of these actors/musicians are no longer here (rest in peace) and some of these actors don’t currently have a beard.
If you have any opinions on this- feel free to weigh in.
top left to right: Kenny Rogers (rest in peace -one of the best beards of all time, no discussion (Ha!), Samuel L. Jackson (hats and beards just work on him).
bottom left to right: Levon Helm (rest in peace- I’m crazy for a singer and drummer and he was Loretta Lynn’s daddy in Coal Miner’s Daughter- which I’ve watched so many times), Michael McDonald (raspy voice and a beard— win, win).
The all Brit/Aussie beard edition.
top left to right: Barry Sloane (if you’re not a fan of his (Longmire, Six)— what are you doing with your life?, Simon Baker (if you didn’t watch The Mentalist— what is wrong with you? Ok, I am joking. Kind of.)
bottom left to right: James Norton (Sidney the brooding vicar on seasons 1-3 of Grantchester. p.s. my brother told me to move on with my life after I was devastated when Norton left the series), Daniel Craig (A great James Bond and I’ve seen almost every Bond movie p.s. If you’d like discuss James Bond movies- I’m here).
top left to right: Don Henley (The Eagles), Marvin Gaye (one of the best all-time voices ever and one of the best musician biographies I’ve read and I’ve read a lot of them).
bottom left to right: Al Pacino, Paul Newman (rest in peace- one of the most stylish men. He just knew how to dress).
top left to right: Titus Welliver (Bosch - right now on Bosch: Legacy - no one beats Titus Welliver at brooding cop/detective), Jon Hamm (Mad Men is one of best TV shows ever)
bottom left to right: Kyle Chandler (he’s good in everything and was excellent in the Bloodline), Denzel Washington (obviously)
top left to right: Michael Douglas (one of my go-to actors and has some of the best hair in the biz), Javier Bardem (his accent, charm and beard)
bottom left to right: A Brit (!) Idris Elba (obviously), and a Scot (!) Sean Connery (rest in peace)
End of Summer Soundtrack
Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits
I felt like I needed an end of summer soundtrack. I reached for Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits which is perfect driving/road trip music. My go-to tune of Seger’s will always be “Against the Wind”. It’s kind of tune you play with the windows down on a breezy, starry night. The combination of Seger’s raspy voice and piano just kills me. The song debuted in 1980 (42 years ago!) and it’s still a classic.
Currently Watching
Bobby and Sophie on the Coast
I’m a fan of all things California. This three episode series with chef Bobby Flay and his journalist daughter, Sophie Flay is entertaining and fun. The two of them visit a variety of restaurants in Los Angeles. It’s fun to see this father/daughter duo share their love of food.
Bobby and Sophie on the Coast (watch on Food Network and Discovery +)
Tom Brady
Watch this Under Armour ad with Tom Brady and Morgan Freeman
I’m a longtime Tom Brady fan. I feel like I need to whisper it here in Colts country. You can come after me, but I’m always going to be a Brady fan. I root for the Colts, too. There’s no other player like Brady and he’s so fun to watch.
Joe Burrow
When I thought Brady retired, my brother suggested I start watching the Bengals and become a fan of Joe Burrow. Burrow is his own guy (I don’t like to compare players) and he is fun to watch. I’m looking forward to this NFL season.
