Hi. How are you? What’s new? It’s June, which is one of the best months in Indiana. Everything is so green, the farmers markets are open and it’s also strawberry season.
I’m enjoying BLT’s with Tennessee tomatoes from Broccoli Bill’s (Indiana tomatoes aren’t ready yet), mini strawberry shortcakes (with shortcake and strawberries from Spencer Farm) and warm rhubarb crumble. Use your regular crumble recipe and substitute rhubarb (you won’t regret it).
This week I reflect on the Indy 500, mini strawberry shortcakes, a podcast to listen to (my brother recommends this one), a movie to rewatch and more.
Thank you for reading and sharing this newsletter with friends. Happy weekend! A.
Did you get a chance to watch the Indy 500 on TV? I did (I love a big sporting event) and was so thrilled to see so many fans. I will admit, I still do not understand some of the rules and penalties. Do you? I enjoy watching the drivers and I don’t think they always get the recognition of being well-trained athletes. I don’t know how they do it. Unbelievable. Can’t wait ‘til next year.
As a Yankees fan, I was excited to see Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson throw out the first pitch at the Yankees game.
I am so excited for this documentary about Yankee legend, Derek Jeter.
I’m a Yankees fan and Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players ever. (Fact!)
*Fun fact: Several years ago I stood about 15 feet away from at a hotel in Chicago. The Yankees were in town playing the White Sox.
It’s Indiana strawberry season. It’s a short season so you gotta enjoy all the strawberry shortcake, right? I picked up strawberries from Spencer Farm (more on them below) and they also sell individual shortcakes. Easy!
*add sugar to strawberries and set them aside until they get really juicy… this makes the best strawberry shortcake. You want it to be messy.
